From Fjords to Firelight: A Norwegian Journey for All Ages

Norway is a place that draws you in slowly and holds you in its embrace. It’s a land of raw elemental wonder, where families—from the youngest to the wisest—find a rhythm in nature that feels made just for them. It’s a place where time slows, allowing you to connect with your loved ones in a wild yet welcoming environment.

From the lush fjords of spring and summer to the crystalline silence of the Arctic winter, this is a destination that welcomes generations, evoking wonder and magic with tales of trolls and the ethereal dancing skies of blues and greens. What makes it truly special isn’t just the scenery (though it’s spectacular) or the activities (which are plentiful, adrenaline-pumping, and deeply immersive). It’s the people—the hosts, guides, chefs, and storytellers—who make it feel like a homecoming.

When others are heading to the suffocating heat of the Mediterranean, head away from the crowds and choose a ‘coolcation’ instead!

Spring & Summer: The Quiet Magic of Åmot and Bergen

Tucked into a secret fjord—a beautiful half-day boat journey beyond Bergen—Åmot feels like it sits in a slower, calmer world. It’s a place where children giggle in delight as they race freely across the lawn and weave in and out of apple-pleached trees, while their grandparents relax in Adirondack chairs around a fire pit, sipping delicious wine. Families can paddle slowly down meandering rivers or trek into stunning landscapes accompanied by llamas, before gathering by the riverbank to cook freshly caught salmon, wild mushrooms, and blueberries foraged that morning.

Here, every day brings discovery:
You can join Captain Steig on his luxurious boat, lean out and fill your cup with water falling directly from a fjord-side waterfall. Dive into waters with visibility up to 120 metres and hunt for shellfish, followed by a lesson in filleting and shucking, before savouring your bounty as fresh, fire-cooked scallops.

Wake with the dawn chorus, enjoy yoga by the little Gaular River, and wade into its icy waters for an invigorating cold plunge—followed by Thomas’s warm pancakes at the summer house. In the evenings, settle into a deeply comfy armchair with a glass of wine from Steiner and Ingver’s cellar, and enjoy a private piano concert with pieces by Edvard Steig and other Norwegian composers whose scores evoke mythic fairies and stomping trolls, warning those who harm the forest.

And it’s all woven together by the Åmot family—hosts whose thoughtfulness and generosity turn a stay into something far more personal. I dream of returning again soon—not only for the incredible food, which is second to none—but for the genuine feeling that I’ve left friends behind I wish to see again.

Autumn & Winter: Isbreen the Glacier

As autumn’s gold deepens into the blue hush of Arctic winter, Isbreen offers something few places on Earth can: an invitation into the soul of the season. Nestled beneath the Northern Lights on a beautiful fjord, with no light pollution, it’s a place to watch storms roll in from the warmth of candlelight, slippers, a glass of red wine, and orange chocolate.

It’s also a time of life-affirming adventure for multigenerational families, with such a wide range of activities that anything less than a three-day stay will leave you wanting to return:

  • Ice floating beneath auroras
  • Snowshoeing
  • Husky rides
  • Jacuzzi soaks and a mirrored-box sauna hidden on the edge of the fjord among the pines
  • Swimming with orca and humpback whales
  • Close encounters with moose, Arctic hares, sea eagles—and maybe, just maybe, a passing lynx
  • Sami markets and light festivals of the Boreal Winter, where stories are told in snow sculptures and sled rides through snow-laden forests

You’ll be welcomed home at the end of each day’s adventure by the wafting aromas of the most incredibly delicious, beautifully presented food—and by the genuine warmth of manager Sara, who made our stay so special.

OUR FOCUS - THE IBERÁ NATIONAL PARK:

This extraordinary wetland, the largest in Argentina, is home to 30% of the biodiversity in the country including endangered species such as the pampas and marsh deer, the maned wolf and grassland birds like the strange-tailed tyrant.

In 2005, what was to become one of the largest rewilding programs in the Americas was started, with the goal of restoring keystone species that had been extirpated from Iberá through hunting and habitat loss and were extinct in the region, the Province or, in some cases, the country.

As the rewilding program developed, the cultural identity of Iberá began to recover alongside the ecosystems and natural processes, impacting a total population of 100,000 people who surround the park.

Today, Iberá stands as one of the world’s most successful ongoing conservation missions.
